Take to the trails and rails
Northern
Michigan is ideal for wheels powered by people. Wooded trailways
connect many quaint towns, perfect for the casual sightseer on a rental
bike. Many areas can recommend local tours that include historic,
cultural or nature-related routes. The region offers recreational
biking challenges for all levels and interests. More experienced bikers
can enjoy breathtaking and challenging terrain along Northern
Michigan’s shorelines, sandstone cliffs, waterways, forests and parks.
Many local races and competitions are available for serious
competitors. Northern Michigan also is a leader in the Rails-to-Trails
Conservancy’s efforts to convert abandoned railroad corridors to hiking
and biking trails.
