The harvest of the land and creativity of its people
Everyone who visits, wants to take a bit
of UPNorth home. Two big choices: Do you get something to keep around
or do you get something tasty to savor? Our suggestion is to take both.
The
flavor of the place that is Northern Michigan can be a food specialty
or a collectible - either will remind you of your visit. The cherry
products, the morels, and Mackinac Island fudge- these are just a
"taste" of UpNorth. In Lelanau the American Spoon company
produces the finest fruit preserves in the world from Michigan fruit
with stores in Petoskey, Harbor Springs, Charlevoix and Traverse City.
In Northport, at Sunrise Dried Fruits, you can enjoy the summer
harvest year 'round with their organic and vegan cranberries, cherries
and blueberries. Think cherries are just for pies? At the Leland Cherry Company they have created healthful concentrate, a line of skin care products and even cherry dog treats.
In the UP, specialty shops cater to those who celebrate the outdoors all four seasons of the year. Up here they know how to keep warm at Northern Lodge Down Company in Gladstone with their specialty down products. The Bloomin’ Yooper caries collectible Lee Middleton Dolls. At Santa’s Workshop
in Christmas, Michigan (that's the name) you will find plates,
ornaments and figurines by Bing & Grondahl, Royal Copenhagen and
Hans Christian Anderson. You can also take home up bit of scenery with
their lighthouses including Whitefish Point, Grand Island East Channel,
Copper Harbor and Manistique Harbor .
