Attractions

Lots to do, all year-round.

aabigmacbig.jpgIn addition to the year-round sports, there are countless attractions ideal for people of all ages in Northern Michigan. The wonders are both nautral and man-made.

Explore fascinating lighthouses, some dating back to 1849. These protected ships navigating the hazards of the nation's inland seas.

Strategic forts founded early in the 18th century served to establish and defend new national boundaries and as fur trading outposts.

Historic train depots highlight the region’s reliance on railroads, a key to Midwest lumber and manufacturing industries.

Of course, the region’s water resources, beaches and shorelines create stunning sites. Along the shores of Lake Michigan in the Lower Peninsula is the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. Along the shores of Lake Superior is the Painted Rocks National Lakeshore.

Joining the two peninsulas is the Mackinac Bridge. An engineering marvel, the five-mile long suspension bridge is the longest in North America and the third-longest in the world.
